What Is Mahjong Connect?

Mahjong Connect — also known as Shisen-Sho or 四川省 (Sichuan) — is a free tile-matching puzzle that uses the same beautiful mahjong tiles as Mahjong Solitaire, but with a completely different mechanic. Instead of peeling tiles off a 3D stack, here the tiles sit flat on a grid, and you clear the board by linking matching pairs.

It is a calm, single-player puzzle: no opponents, no dice, no betting. Just you, a grid of tiles, and a satisfying hunt for connectable pairs. You can play Mahjong Connect free online right on this page — no download and no sign-up.

How to Play

The rule is simple but gives the game its depth. You remove tiles two at a time by clicking a pair that shows the same picture — but only if the two tiles can be joined by a connecting path that:

runs horizontally and vertically through empty space (cells that are already cleared, or the open border around the grid), and
makes at most two turns (so the link is at most three straight segments).

If a clear path with two turns or fewer exists between two identical tiles, they connect and vanish. If every route between them needs three or more turns, they can’t be linked yet — you’ll need to clear other tiles to open a shorter path. Matching also uses the friendly bonus rule: any flower links with any other flower, and any season with any other season.

Clear every tile to win. Use Hint if you can’t spot a pair, Undo to take back a move, and Shuffle to re-deal the remaining tiles when you run out of moves.

Connect vs. Mahjong Solitaire

They share the tiles but play very differently. In classic Mahjong Solitaire the tiles are stacked into a three-dimensional layout and a tile is “free” when it is uncovered on top with an open left or right side. In Mahjong Connect the board is flat and a pair is removable when a short, two-turn path links them through empty space. If you enjoy one, the other is a refreshing change of pace using the same familiar artwork.

Tips to Clear the Board

Open the board up from the edges and outer columns first — tiles on the perimeter are easiest to link and clearing them creates the empty lanes your later paths will travel through. Watch for pairs that are about to get boxed in, and prefer matches that open new routes over ones that close them. When you genuinely run out of connectable pairs, Shuffle re-deals the rest so you can keep going.
